The famous Oberon Tigers achieved a record between 1961 and 1971 that has been unmatched, when they won 10 out of 11 consecutive grand finals.
The club is one of the most successful Group 10 competition clubs ever.
Oberon Leagues Sports & Recreation Club is a nursery for future first grade players, which have included Craig Bellamy. In recent times two more aspiring stars have been signed to NRL Clubs.

Jenolan Caves for the Musically Inclined

By david - Posted on 20 December 2009

You may not know it, but the world famous Jenolan Caves are located within the district of Oberon NSW.

In fact it was the earliest settlers of the Oberon district who located the Jenolan Caves when trying to rid the area of bushrangers.
They were instrumental in the early development of the Caves as a tourism destination and their descendents still live locally.

For the duration of the Oberon & Villages Summer Festival, the Cave Trustees have arranged a series of musical interludes within the Caves complex.

And so for the musically inclined visitors to the Highlands Steam & Vintage Fair there is an added incentive to come to Oberon for the weekend 19th 20th 21st February 2010.
Georg Mertens, well known Cello virtuoso, will perform at 4.00PM on Saturday 20th.
Needless to say, the acoustics are awesome!

Enquiries should be directed to Oberon Visitors Information Centre www.oberonaustralia.com or direct to the Jenolan Caves www.jenolancaves.org.au

Oberon & Villages Summer Festival has Plenty to Offer

By david - Posted on 18 December 2009

Oberon & Villages Summer Festival is offering a weekend of Heritage over 19th 20th 21st February 2010.To whet your appetite there's news of yet another major event occurring during this weekend.

Festival co-ordinator, Wayne Cooper, said recently that the Festival is well stocked with activities catering to every person's taste.

"The 110th Oberon Agricultural Show, first held in 1896, is the place to see summer's bounty in full display. Let the locals point out Oberon's famous jellies made from local fruit trees that are over a century old or watch the brave locals ride the bulls in the ring or experience the pride of the farmers as they display prime local livestock, fruit and vegetables.

Dogs, horses and cattle have prominence in 2010.

Does two days of non-stop dog and working dog trials; equestrian events and a giant wild bull-riding rodeo plus a bigger sideshow alley and more arts and crafts grab your interest?"

Refer to www.oberonfestivals.com.au for details of all the events and activities  for which Oberon & Villages Summer Festival has become so well known.

Big Plans afoot for OTHR

By david - Posted on 15 December 2009

Here's something interesting for railway buffs!

Oberon Tarana Heritage Railway has taken delivery of some of their rolling stock in time for the Oberon & Villages Summer Festival and their display in association with the Highlands Steam & Vintage Fair.

President Shane Moorhead said the group is planning to display a series of "S-Trucks" at the station filled with produce that would have been shipped from Oberon in the 1950's. Peas, potatoes and timber were just some of the local produce railed mostly to markets in Sydney.
Also confirmed as being on display on that weekend is a very rare Arnotts Biscuit Truck that carried tins of biscuits to country towns in years gone by. This truck was loaded at Arnott's Homebush factory and plied the tracks to the far reaches of New South Wales.

Shane will be announcing more interesting additions to the event at the historic Oberon station within weeks and you'll read about them first on this page.

Oberon will truly be a heritage town in February 2010 and be a great lesson in history for young and old alike.

Great Weather in February

By david - Posted on 14 December 2009

Oberon in February is just devine!

Alpine climates can be fickle but February in Oberon is usually very stable with daytime temperatures averaging around 25C and nights cool and crisp.

When preparing for the Highlands Steam & Vintage Fair we recommend that you pack summer gear for daytime and warmer clothing for night. Don't forget your hat, umbrella and sun screen because although the climate is mild, it is also deceptive.
Our UV factor is high and you can burn easily, so beware!

Clubs should bring their tents for protection during the Bathurst Toyota Show'N'Shine.
